For this week’s session of Dungeon Synth Sunday on The Order, we have two albums for you. The first is this beguiling fractal, neoclassical-ambient form of DS from a mysterious figure known as Peorð.

A beautifully deep and complex listen that the artist has self-styled as “not dungeon synth but”, this is an intriguingly experimental, but comfortingly lo-fi ambient listen that is, well, not exactly dungeon synth, but….

Our second instalment in today’s Dungeon Synth Sunday is the latest deep exploratory dark ambient album from Hiemis.

The echoing floating tones could evoke the spiralling void of deep space or crushing depths of the sea – or a plane in between. A tangible soundscape from which the listener can draw their own narrative.

We conclude our series of Eisenwald / Haeresis Noviomagi releases with O’s solo project, Iskandr.

The highly anticipated album dealt with more rural, pagan themes, influenced by early Enslaved, with lyrics addressing homelands and geopsychology of living through particular environments. Possibly the most traditional sounding black metal of all Haeresis-collective releases, it still stands apart from derivative genre-tropes, carving its own imposing monumental atmosphere, while departing from the core locked-groove hypnotics the rest of the HN bands channel.

This essential album is still available on Vinyl, CDs and cassette from Eisenwald and Haeresis.
